UAA is the largest university in thestate and one of three universities in the University of AlaskaStatewide System. The School of Nursing (SON), the biggest unitwithin the College of Health, enrolls more than 570 students andhas approximately 40 full time faculty members. The SON offers afull suite of academic programs, from associate to doctoralprograms.The Associate Director will work with the Director of the Schoolof Nursing to inspire and lead a school that is committed toaddressing the critical workforce needs of healthcare throughoutAlaska. In helping to achieve the goal of doubling the number ofhealth care graduates by 2025, the Associate Director will play akey role in shaping the entire healthcare community throughoutAlaska. With 15 different Outreach locations, the SON has a directimpact in promoting the health of all Alaskans, from Anchorage toextremely rural communities. Being the only public universityprogram for Nursing within the state of Alaska, the SON at UAA isin a unique position to be the key driver of change in healthcareoutcomes throughout the state.The Associate Director will assist the Director in the effectiveadministration of the School of Nursing. Ideally, the AssociateDirector will have experience in direct patient care combined withan academic nursing background as well as experience thatdemonstrates the following: activity and accomplishments inteaching, research, and service within the nursing field; in-depthunderstanding of nursing education and research; knowledge ofdistance learning nursing education; experience in grant writing;familiarity with curricula development, assessment, andaccreditation; and experience working within a diverse community ofstudents, staff, and faculty.Candidates are required to possess a doctoral degree in anappropriate discipline and the ability to be tenured within theSchool of Nursing. Additionally, applicants must meet thequalifications for nursing licensure in Alaska. The nurseadministrator must be experientially qualified and must havepreparation or experience in administration, education, andclinical nursing practice.
