Brazen theft near Courtland

A thief waltzed into a home on Colonel Talbot Road near Courtland last week and made off with a senior’s purse.The victim told police a strange man knocked on her door around noon Thursday and struck up a conversation on health issues and other topics.As the conversation proceeded, the man began to wander through the house and checked out every room. He then left and walked away in an unknown direction.“The elderly homeowner realized this was, in fact, a strange occurrence,” Const. Ed Sanchuk, spokesperson for the Norfolk OPP, said in a news release.“However, (she) did not contact police until they received a call from a female on Saturday indicating they found a purse belonging to the homeowner. It was determined that the male removed the purse from the home and then stole $200. He then discarded the purse on the side of the roadway.”The suspect is a man between 50 and 60 years of age. He is short in stature and has a distinctive high-pitched voice. He was wearing a baseball cap, blue jeans and a jacket.Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Norfolk OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
